This! This! This is that part. I have had many-o-moments where I had to pause and make focused eye contact to let someone know, "I really see you right now, and I know what your comment is doing here." That was her moment to step back and reflect, and then change the entire subject if she was not prepared for his response. I said in another comment that someone (a celeb) did that to me when I asked a question about Five Percenters. I realized that my line of questioning needed to be fixed (and quickly) and we got through an extremely bumpy period in the conversation. We did talk with the tape recorders off, but I took that conversation as something I needed to learn as an interviewer, not the interviewer. I was hoping Couric would do the same thing.
