Nope. It was a squirrel who had babies in the attic (with my parents). The German Shepherd didn't care and wouldn't come upstairs.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback that I was dog sitting was the one killing stuff left and right. She attacked a skunk before I got there. She wanted ALL the wildlife smoke. She caught a bird mid-air and ate that, too.

Ironically, the German Shepherd (my parents' dog) brought a baby possum that played dead into their house. The possum took off and disappeared. My mother thought her eyes were playing tricks on her until one of her ceramics fell. Possum played dead AGAIN. My German Shepherd? Bored. Kept watching TV and playing with a bone. She was clearly NOT a hunting dog like your deck dog was or the Rhodesian Ridgeback.

And I'm not trying to find out what my Hound would do. All I know is your story reminds me of how many times I have had to yank her out of trees from chasing squirrels.
