"New" explosion of unapologetic blackness? I wouldn't call it new. The Harlem Renaissance alone was an explosion of "unapologetic blackness." Richard Wright books are, too. Walter Mosley didn't lay into it, but August Wilson certainly did. Gwendolyn Brooks. Sojourner Truth. And on and on and on. But the public education system will totally overlook all of these folks if not for black people in the school and even when they are.
Still though, it's good to see these new friendships have made you more aware, so maybe you can pass it on to others who also need to know. Exposure is indeed everything.
