Thank you for responding. I definitely agree that sometimes you just flat-out don’t know what you don’t know. But I’d feel a bit annoyed if somebody just randomly assumed my hair must be tangling while I was sleep and wonder why I, personally, would know how to maintain it. The thing is that I know I wouldn’t feel a way if a sista asked me the same question who went through the same thing you went through. Hair is a sensitive topic for black women because too many times we get treated like freak shows simply for having a different texture of hair. There’s a reason Solange made that “Don’t Touch My Hair” song.

Strange enough, I have never had a white woman randomly touch my hair, minus an actual college friend of mine who conned me into being her cosmetology hair and makeup test. It was a mess, but she tried.

Anyway, going back to your point, what made you ask this student in particular?
