Exactly. I think she was trying to gain brownie points because she was sitting with a group of black women (on Red Table Talk). But when people are overly complimentary, it makes me wonder if they would say the same thing if we weren’t around. If she’s just going around telling all of her white friends “black people are magical,” then so be it. But hearing a white woman talk about “black girl magic” is like hearing a man of any race gush over the “We can do it” poster — as genuine as he may be, it just doesn’t have the same pizzazz. With that said, I know she meant well — both of them did. Charlotte from “Sex & the City” just did a way better job of telling her story from the heart. The “Grey’s Anatomy” lady made me feel like she was waiting for applause.
