Been there. Didn’t work. I actually got a work evaluation stating that I was at my desk “too much.” The group took it one step further and had a “Most Likely to _________” survey. The same group of talk-about-nothing girls voted me as “Most Likely to Stay At Her Desk.” It was absolutely bizarre to be told by my own boss that I don’t talk to the rest of the team enough and work too much. I was lectured to get up and start “hanging out with co-workers.” Besides pointless meetings, another thing I just cannot stand about Corporate America is cubicles coming down and open-plan designs coming up. There’s a reason those private office booths keep popping up and WeWork spaces even have dividers: people need space to actually work. I already have friends. I don’t need every last one of them to be people I work with.
