Agreed. I guess my parents could’ve told me, “Hey, that’s not a good idea.” But we live in a different time where (most) people actually give a damn about hearing people out about cultural appropriation in a different way. I learned so much from this trip to Canada (and the two years I spent in the UP, upper peninsula of Michigan) that made me reevaluate a bunch of stuff I never thought was a big deal. You live and you learn. As you mentioned, it’s one thing to not have a clue altogether. It’s another to be voluntarily ignorant and go out of your way to to never even bother to find out what’s problematic.
